Amy Hurn was head of the Science Department at Vancouver Technical School and regularly taught summer school at Churchill Secondary School. She died in a traffic accident while cycling to work.
Amy was a highly motivated and respected teacher who recognized the needs and abilities of her students and encouraged them to succeed. She was a sponsor of the Student Council at Van. Tech. Dedicated to public education, she was also a member of the executive of the Vancouver Secondary Teachers Association.
Amy knew the value of education, both in a formal classroom and in the ongoing acquisition of knowledge required to be an effective member of society. She had a keen and critical interest in current affairs, enjoyed many outdoor activities, and will be remembered by her friends, her family, her students, and her colleagues for the joy she brought to their lives.
